Day two of our 21-day challenge and things are going well. I woke up ready for coffee and not especially hungry. Another day begins with a green smoothie about an hour after my morning coffee. Lunch at around noon was relatively light and was just what I needed to power my way through the rest of the day. I must admit that dinner at 7 was later than I should’ve waited (Birdy had a dinner engagement with a colleague and I must admit to being out of sorts when she is not there). A few hours after dinner and I feel satisfied and not necessarily craving anything (except, perhaps, a beer that I will reserve until after I publish this post…!).
Riding in to work today, I reflected on why we are doing this- and perhaps why Birdy and I regularly find ourselves enveloped in these lifestyle projects: This way of living gives life a greater meaning. We wake up with a plan and a purpose. We are living as much for today as we are for the completion of our goal. Sharing this journey deepens our bond and makes such experiments more tolerable. By doing this together, we hold each other accountable. It’s actually kinda fun.
Many of you may have tried diets or adopted exercise routines in the past with varying degrees of success. I imagine you are reading to see how our experiment goes. I want you to know that neither I, nor Birdy, will be sugar coating (blog posts or our meals) our results or exaggerating our progress. We will be sharing our findings as we go in order to uncover what works and what doesn’t- What tastes good and what tastes awful- What makes us feel good and what doesn’t.
Read Birdy’s hand written diary for the specifics of our meals (we have essentially the same thing except that I have about 20% more and I add a few protein bars, a serving of nuts, a boiled egg, a banana and one other fruit).
In the meantime, I welcome any comments, questions or suggestions during this process. Thanks for staying tuned.
