I realized today that we have gone beyond the initial 21-day goal we set for trying our new meal and exercise plan. Getting into this new lifestyle feels so natural that we both forgot that we passed our goal. This dawned on me as we were getting in the car after playing tennis for 45 minutes today. And tennis was after we swam for 35 minutes at the gym only minutes before.
We may not be following the plan to the letter, but we have adopted new attitudes and habits towards food and exercise that have resulted in real changes in our lives. Both of us have shaved a few pounds off our weight while adding a few pounds of muscle and improving our overall sense of well-being.
This new plan doesn’t demand that we become gym rats or eat rabbit food for every meal every day. I still have a few beers every night and ice cream most days… In fact, we just ate double cheeseburgers with fries at Five Guys last weekend…We occasionally take days off and lay around in bed all day…The difference is that we are now able to enjoy a lazy Saturday with more mindfulness of the indulgence.
We have no intention of stopping this new lifestyle anytime soon…It’s pretty fun just riding this wave. It feels less like a diet and gym commitment and more like a new way of living.
