A neighborhood stray cat saunters up to the window and peers in. It’s bitter cold outside and her breath billows out of her nose like a steam engine. She pants heavily as she surveys our balmy winter sun room.
Toasty inside, GirlCat looks longingly at her wayward cousin. Locked in her castle, her gaze is fixed on our visitor.
I was struck by the paradox:
Those inside envy the freedom of those outside
Those outside envy the comfort of those inside
The morale of this scene is inescapable:
Be thankful, no matter which side of the glass you find yourself on.
