You cannot undo how you got to today. Whatever you did, and whomever you did it with, are fixed quantities locked in the past. Lamenting your mistakes and the time you’ve lost only serves to delay your progress towards a better version of you. You can only focus on getting right, right now.
Having lived someone else’s ideal life, and almost losing my own along the way, I am grateful for each day I wake up alive. I am going to live a life I am proud of, a life worth writing about. I am gonna live my story. My two feet are my passport to this inspired adventure that I make every day. With every breath I take, I invest in the cultivation of my own purposeful lifestyle.
I am not running away from the mundane, soulless pursuit of money…
I am moving toward the people and projects who’s purpose is the realization of something greater in ourselves.
INXS named one of their albums, “Welcome to wherever you are”; This is the essence of being right, right now. Recognizing that where you are, wherever that may be, is the starting point. As long as you hold on to those beliefs/habits/fears that defined you before, you will remain there. Assuming you’ve read this far because you are not where you want to be, you are sowing the seeds for your own personal revolution.
The urgency of this life is obscured by the luxury of seat cushions, the safety of airbags and the predictability of traffic. What a damned shame it is that we need some personal tragedy in our lives to bring our true destiny into focus. We laugh at the question, “what would you do if you only had one more year to live?” You sure as hell wouldn’t keep schlepping yourself to that shitty office job that covers only some of your wants but sucks all of your soul…
Being right, right now is not about some grandiose idea that you have to quit your job today and become a mega-rich, globe-trotting reality-TV star.
It is about taking stock of:
what really and truly moves you,
what inspires and ignites your passion,
what you know in your heart to be your calling and
having the balls to get started doing it.
Permit yourself to live on purpose. Then objectively (or should I say honestly) identify what you must start and stop doing to make that a reality.
It is nothing short of a miracle that I am alive and sane enough to be writing this. I will no longer let myself, or anyone else, hold me back because of my past mistakes/flaws/failures/fears. I will spend my energy only on things that bring me closer to my goals. I will follow the path that calls to me instead of fighting to get further up a ladder that leads to the fulfillment of someone else’s needs.
