A key component to mastery is eliminating waste.
Watching a master perform her craft, you don’t see the years of:
- Imperfect brushstrokes
- Missed shots
- Flawed arguments
- Self doubt
- Edits and re-writes
- Late arrivals
- Unsold work
- Hurt feelings
- Wasted materials
- Unhappy clients
What you see is the culmination of years of work spent eliminating wasted time, effort, materials, money, etc.
There is no shortcut to mastery. There is no easy path. There is no avoiding waste along the way.
You can only arrive at mastery by pushing through the waste, eliminating little bits of it every day.
The biggest waste would be giving up before you get there…
